Stop Hidden Hunger

The true meaning of life is often said to be finding your gift, and the purpose is to give it away. When Ma Joye discovered her calling in Umgibe Farming, she didn’t hesitate to share this powerful gift with those who needed it most. She reached out to people who simply needed an opportunity, a voice that said, “You, too, matter, and you, too, deserve all the love and care life has to offer.”

Umgibe Stop Hidden Hunger is a community-driven initiative dedicated to empowering individuals across South Africa. Our mission is to foster sustainable and environmentally sound development by teaching communities to plant crops, raise livestock, and utilize their available resources effectively. Through resource mobilization and comprehensive skills training, we aim to eradicate poverty, hunger, and malnutrition, while improving the overall quality of life.

Umgibe provides holistic, responsive solutions and interventions that are designed to make a lasting impact. We implement practical and sustainable projects that focus on long-term community development and upliftment. These projects not only meet the immediate needs of participants but also empower them to reach their full potential, ensuring they have the tools and support to build better, brighter futures for themselves and their families.

Through Stop Hidden Hunger, Umgibe is working toward a future where no one is left behind, and every person can thrive.

It Takes a Village to Raise a Child

The basic human rights everyone deserves are food, shelter, education, and opportunities for a better future. However, among these, the most fundamental and urgent is food. The lack of access to these basic rights has severely impacted many communities, leading to widespread suffering, particularly among children.

The hunger levels are alarmingly high in our society, with 1 in 5 children attending school on an empty stomach. This challenge disproportionately affects girls, contributing to a disturbing rise in teenage pregnancies, often linked to the “blesser” phenomenon—where young girls exchange favors for material gain.

The Stop the Hidden Hunger campaign was created to address these critical challenges faced by schoolchildren, particularly young girls. This initiative provides sustainable solutions to hunger in schools by promoting self-sufficiency through agricultural programs.

Through Umgibe Workshops, we aim to increase food security and provide access to nutritious organic vegetables for enrolled children in participating schools. These workshops also offer experiential learning opportunities for students, teachers, parents, and local communities, creating a ripple effect of positive change.
